Downtown Greenville's Revitalization is Underway!

Over the past few years, City of Greenville leadership has been worked toward revitalizing the community's downtown area.  We're poised to grow into the future while holding onto our history.  This site will be your resource, whether your a potential developer, business owner or a resident who is excited to watch as we grow.

 

Commitment to the Downtown

The Greenville City Council is committed to stimulating growth in Downtown Greenville. The City Council worked with other taxing bodies to gain their support to extend the term of the Downtown TIF District.  A bill was passed in the 2021 legislature and signed into law that will extend the term of the TIF District an additional twelve years, expiring in December 2041.  Additionally, the City Council enacted a business district which will further assist in development throughout Greenville.  The City is planning for the development of a Downtown Plaza and in the process of creating a Strategic Plan for the downtown area while also working with current and potential developers to bring exciting new opportunities to our community.

 

Downtown Strategic Plan

While City leaderships works with private investors and developers, the Greenville City Council has engaged PGAV Planners to complete a Downtown Strategic Plan aimed at improving the walkability and modernization of our downtown.  City leaders value Greenville's vast history, particularly the downtown, and include in the planning process intentions to maintain the historic feel of the area.  The Plan will expand upon the Downtown Greenville Plaza and develop a new streetscape plan around the Square, including  burying of power lines, enhanced street lighting, improved event space, greater sidewalks, and much more.  As part of the developing the Downtown Strategic Plan, stakeholders and the public will be invited to participate and provide input as to what they want for the Downtown square. 

 

This collaboration will allow the city and community to have a shared vision for Downtown Greenville.
